COMPARE The GMC Canyon vs. The Competition

Compare the New GMC Canyon in Eynon, PA

Most people drive pickup trucks primarily because of their capability. But if you're driving a truck to work every day in Archbald, PA, you also want it to ride comfortably. The new GMC Canyon is one of the most versatile midsize trucks on the market, with a range of engine options, two bed sizes, and two body styles. The Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger are also good midsize trucks, but here at Eynon Buick GMC, we believe the Canyon has them beat. Read on to see why this GMC truck is a cut above the rest.

 TOYOTA TACOMA

The new Toyota Tacoma excels at going off road, and it's packed with standard features. It also has decent towing and hauling capability, though it's not a class leader in those categories. The Tacoma's straightforward infotainment system is easy to operate while you're driving.

Pros

  • Outstanding off-road proficiency in TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro trims.
  • Infotainment system has easy-to-navigate menus.
  • Numerous standard driver assistance features.

Cons

  • Has an underpowered base engine.
  • Stiff ride quality on pavement.
  • Has a cramped rear seat.

 FORD RANGER

The new Ford Ranger can tow almost as much as the GMC Canyon. It also has a potent turbocharged engine that enables brisk acceleration. However, the Ranger has a cheap looking, dated interior with only a few standard features.

Pros

  • A strong engine that also delivers good fuel economy.
  • Responsive, well-weighted steering allows easy maneuverability.
  • Solid towing and hauling capability.

Cons

  • Dated, plain interior styling with too many hard plastic surfaces.
  • Not many standard features.
  • Not much in the way of cargo-related extras.

 GMC CANYON

Unlike its rivals, the new GMC Canyon is offered with three available engines, including a turbodiesel motor that makes 369 pound-feet of torque. Its suspension does a fine job of soaking up bumps and rough patches in the street for a more comfortable commute in Scranton. The GMC Canyon AT4 trim comes with four-wheel drive, an off-road-tuned suspension, a skid plate, and 17-inch wheels with large, all-terrain tires.

Inside, the new GMC Canyon is quiet and comfortable, with an inlaid door design, triple door seals, shear-style body mounts, and liquid-applied sound deadener for a more placid ambiance. The GMC Canyon's infotainment system is among the easiest to use in its class, with simple menus, large icons, and prompt responses.

Like most work trucks, the entry-level GMC Canyon Elevation Standard trim has cloth upholstery and basic standard features. However, Canyon Denali models come with leather upholstery, navigation, and a Bose stereo. The Canyon Denali's ventilated front seats keep you cool on hot summer days in Eynon.

Pros

  • A class-leading tow rating of 7,700 pounds with the available turbodiesel engine.
  • Stable, sure-footed handling with minimal body roll around turns.
  • Spacious, well-cushioned seats affording excellent outward visibility.
  • Available EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate that can be secured in a halfway position to help support long cargo.

Canyon vs. Colorado

Canyon Pros

  • The GMC Canyon has three engine options available, including a four-cylinder base engine, an optional V6 upgrade, and an available diesel turbocharged four-cylinder. The Chevy Colorado has just two engines available and no diesel option.
  • With their identical V6 upgrade options, both pickups have a maximum 7,700-pound towing capacity for gas power.
  • Both trucks offer drivers a menu of trims to choose from, and both options have two cab style options. Regardless of which you choose, however, their close relationship as models from the same manufacturer mean they offer identical amounts of interior space for legroom, headroom, and more.

Colorado Cons

  • The GMC Canyon has a top-of-the-line trim with all the bells and whistles and a luxury-level interior that the Chevy Colorado can't compete with. The GMC Canyon Denali has standard ventilated seats, a premium brand sound system, and more, while the top-tier Colorado ZR2 makes all the same luxury amenities only optional, meaning you have to add them on and request them special.
  • No diesel engine option means fewer opportunities for Archbald and Dunmore drivers to personalize their pickup truck experience and get the power and performance that they want.
