GMC Terrain vs. Ford Escape

• Standard amenities. The GMC Terrain far outshines the competition from Ford when it comes to standard features and amenities. Our SUV gets a roster of standard amenities that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a touchscreen interface, navigation, and much more, none of which are standard with the Ford Escape and, in fact, aren't available until you move up in trim levels.
• Available features. Not only does the GMC SUV have more features standard starting at the base model, but it also has a wider availability for optional features as well. Second trim options for the Terrain come with standard hands-free liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and heated seats, but these are all just optional for the Ford Escape, many not even available until higher up the trim level lineup.
• Cargo storage flexibility. While the Ford Escape has a rear cargo hold that actually accommodates a little more gear than the GMC Terrain, the Terrain offers more flexibility when it comes to maximizing how much stuff you can take with you. The GMC has 29.6 cubic feet of space behind the back row. But its second row folds flat to make room for more stuff, and, in a unique twist for this class, even its front passenger seat can fold flat for added flexibility. But the Ford Escape second row doesn't fold flat, making it harder and more awkward to use for storage, and its front seat doesn't fold down at all.
